You can spend your days exploring nearby historic Battery Point, including Narryna stately home (built for 19th century whaler, Capt. Kelly), the historic Hobart waterfront and Constitution Dock, Salamanca Place with its galleries and cafes and, on Saturday morning the famous Salamanca Market.
Also walking distance are the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the Tasmanian State Library, the Theatre Royal, the Playhouse Repertory Theatre and Federation Hall, the home of the world-class Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
You may also wish to explore further afield. Day trips include the Royal Tasmania Botanical Gardens, fruit and berry picking (in season) at Sorell and Sandfly, an informative boat ride to the fabulous restaurant at Peppermint Bay, a trip up Mount Wellington, the Salmon Ponds historic fish hatchery at Plenty, the Mt Field National Park with the stunning Russell Falls, the Cascade Brewery (the oldest in Australia), a ferry ride to the Cadbury’s Chocolate factory at Claremont.
To the East at Tasman Peninsula you can visit Eaglehawk Neck, Pirates Bay and astonishing Port Arthur convict gaol site. Whether you have a car or not, there are tour operators for most of these who will pick you up at the door by arrangement.
